About the GALLERY

The Apple 360 Gallery by Flipside Studios is a collection of product demos my company produced for Apple between 1996 and 2007. It is a showcase for the work, as well as a look at a particular period in Apple’s product history.

The 360s in this gallery were originally created and viewed with Apple’s discontinued QTVR (QuickTime VR) platform and have been remade in the current HTML5.

I had the great fortune to be one of Apple’s A-list product photographers for a remarkable 24 years shooting everything from packaging and web images, to ads and in-store posters, to Steve Jobs’ product launch keynote presentations.

In 1996 − my 13th year working with them − Apple asked me to apply my product photography skills to help bring interactive product spins to their website, using their recently developed QuickTime VR (QTVR) technology.

I accepted the challenge and became one of the first professional studios - along with only about 5 others around the world at that time - to work in 360 object photography. Having an established relationship with Apple and being situated just 50 minutes away in San Francisco gave me the unique chance to work closely with Apple’s QTVR engineering team in the development of hardware and software tools for creating 360 product spins. It was an exciting, challenging, and productive time.

Over the next decade Flipside (known then as John Greenleigh Studios) remained the exclusive provider of 360 demos for every new Apple hardware product. The demos would go live on Apple.com immediately after Steve Jobs announced them at his iconic keynotes.

In the years since then, Flipside has gone on to produce interactive 360 demos for many of the world’s leading companies including Nike, Google, Amazon, LG Mobile, and Google. See our 360 portfolio.

There are plenty more QTVR 360s to recreate, plus other cool Apple history to share, so follow Flipside Studios on Instagram and Twitter to see announcements about new content.

Enjoy the gallery!
